Elements of Art
Line- This picture represents line because the trail I was walking on is a straight line that continues past the horizon of the picture. It is shown that it is an ongoing line and it is shown through the perspective of this picture.
Shape- This picture represents shape because the rock I was taking a picture of is in the shape of a heart. It shows the geometric shape of a heart but it is also surrounded with other organic shapes of the other rocks.
Form- This picture represents form because the bridge is a 3D figure that includes height and depth. This is shown through the angle the picture is taken and the different shadows that create depth in the picture.
Texture- This picture represents texture because the cracks in the clay illustrate what the picture would feel like if you touched it. You can tell by this picture that the clay would feel dry, crusty, and crumbly.
Value- This picture represents value because the variation of the piano has multiple shades. The white shows the lightest of values and the black shows the darkest of values. There are also some grays represented in this picture shown with the reflection on the piano itself.
Space- This picture represents space because it contains both unoccupied space behind Kensey and it also contains occupied space because there is an object (Kensey) inside the door frame. The door frame is creating this sense of space because it is the outline that forms the unoccupied and occupied space.
Color- This picture represents color because it shows a wide variety of different colors from reds to purples. This picture also represents high intensity of color because they are vibrant, strong, and vivid.
Principles of Design
Contrast- This picture represents contrast because the dark colors and values of the river contrast with the bright whites and values of the snow on the ground. Contrast in this picture is used to create visual interest.
Movement- This picture represents movement because the fire in this picture shows movement through the structure of the flames. The flames are creating an effect of motion.
Emphasis- This picture represents emphasis because the flower is the main focus in the picture and your eyes are immediately drawn to it. It is contrasting with the colors behind it which makes your eyes draw to it because the background is all one color and it is the main focus.
Rhythm- This picture represents rhythm because it suggests movement through the repetition of the pattern and the lines on the plant. It creates a path for the viewer's eyes to follow because the lines going from left to right suggest it should move that way.
Unity- This picture represents unity because the elements in this picture work together to bring the picture together into a single unit. The repeated umbrellas makes the design work well with the eye so it is visually appealing.
Emphasis- This picture also represents emphasis because the main focus in this picture is the branch closer to the camera. This branch is being completely focused on while the background is blurred out so your eye is not drawn to it.
Pattern- This picture represents pattern because there is a regular arrangement of the same shape in the chain-linked fence the squares are being repeated. This pattern flows from one side to another so there is no flaw from beginning to end.
Pattern- This picture also represents pattern because there is a regular arrangement of the same shape repeated. The pattern flows all the way down the picture and there is no flaw in the pattern.
Balance- This picture represents balance because there is the same visual weight on both sides of the picture. The space on both sides of the picture is being balanced because the picture is taken straight down the middle. Both sides of the picture carry the same weight.
